America has several national parks but there are some that people do not really know about. Lassen Volcanic National Park is one of the ones that are not well known. This national is found in California and has an active volcano. Its landscape is dramatic and includes some hot springs, bubbling mud and fumaroles. The area also has some interesting hiking trails and remarkable waterfalls.

Alaska is also home to one of these lesser known national parks. The Katmai National Park and Reserve is found in the Southwest part of the region and has been in existence since 1980. This park covers over 4 million acres of wilderness and its beauty is spectacular.

Great Basin National Park is another lesser known one and it is found close to the Utah-Nevada border. It is a great place to visit if you enjoy star gazing and is recognized to be one of the darkest areas in the country.
