The second largest island on Hawaii, Maui apart from having a number of scenic locations has a number of historical places to visit. One of the most prominent historical places to visit in Maui is Lahiana .This town was once the capital of Hawaiian island. The Jodo Mission is a replica of a Japanese temple. It comprises of a towering Pagoda, peaceful grounds and a Buddhist statue of a height of 12 feet and weighing around 3 tons. The Kipanewi Park is another Historical location where a battle was fought in1790 between the army of the Hawaii Island chief Kamehameha and Maui chief Kahekili.
The pioneer Inn was established by George Freeland who was a member of the Canadian police force. He had come to the island looking for a criminal but stayed back here instead and established the Pioneer Inn. The Bailey House museum and the Baldwin Home Museum are other places to visit. Do not miss the Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum where you can still see how a sugar plantation is run and can sample their raw sugar.
